Fortified candy enters healthier sweets market

Several candy makers have been pumping nutrients into their candy to allow consumers to indulge in sweets while being healthy, too.

Since 2003, more than 100 new chocolate and candy products claiming to be healthier, such as vitamin C chewing gum and chocolate bars with calcium and omega-3 fatty acids, have entered the market, research firm Mintel Group said.
